Tiki Statue

I got a pretty good sunburn working out in the yard the day before but I really wanted to be outside to enjoy the nice weather so I was looking for something do in the shade. I took a little walk in my woods and decided with an upcoming Tiki party I would take a crack at making a Tiki statue from a standing dead tree I came across. So I took down this nice big dead black cherry. Heavy sucker though; even with ramps, rollers and come-alongs it was quite an ordeal to get it over the rock wall on the edge of my property. Pulled up a couple pictures of a Tiki statues on my phone, used chalk to mark some guides and profiles and started cutting away! Later I finished up with some chisel work, I also got some very good use here out of my electric hand planer. I finished up with some amber shellac and it was a great centerpiece for the party! I think with some practice I could get pretty good at this, but I am relatively satisfied with this as a first attempt.

This was before I finished the eyes, those were just placeholders!
