I received a message from a friend who was in Texas helping his family recover from hurricane Harvey. In their coastal town there was significant flooding and when he arrived he discovered a dresser with sentimental value to the family floating in salt water now for several days. He asked if I would help to restore it and of course I said yes and he broke it all down and shipped me the pieces. Here is what it looked like:
After a lot of planing and sanding, some refabrication of unsalvageable pieces, new luan backing and drawer bottoms and a lot of squaring twisted and warped lengths the piece started to come together:
I handed it back over to my friend to finish some of the fine grit and staining and I think he did a killer job and it came out cherry!
