Before all the Facebook fun was common with posting silly autocomplete recommendations I was a trailblazer laughing at the recommendations Google had for completing your search strings so I decided to write some software to explore this further. It took a bit of dabbling but I was able to feed text and pull back recommendations through a Google API they left open for browser integration with their search engine. I could feed in source material and apply one of a couple different algorithms to seed the autocompletes from it and see what came out. For instance I would send in movie scripts and have classic dialogue be corrected with often hysterical adjustments. Unfortunately, this got my house banned by google! I didn’t even know that was possible but apparently autosuggesting every line in the script to the Princess Bride looks a lot like a Denial of Service attack! Only lasted 24hrs and in the meantime I was able to modify my code to route my requests through TOR so that my requests against Google were bouncing out of several countries so they couldn’t block me.
Around that time I used this software to write a love letter to my wife, it’s not too funny, but we still quote it sometimes and laugh <3
